From Mexico to the United States of America
Every time you stare at your computer screen, you see images, videos, and different posts flash before your eyes. Have you ever wondered how these things were chosen and why? Everything you see from social media networking sites, blogs, and even government-run websites involved someone sitting behind a computer screen and specifically choosing as well as planning what they wanted to display to their audience. Everything you see was specifically chosen to convey a message to someone deemed important. So, when an event occurs that shocks nations around the world, the same method is used to convince an audience that something needs to be done to achieve change. This is exactly what happened after the 43 students of Ayotzinapa went missing and the websites #UStired2 and #yamecanse went up. They use specific images, videos, and connections to social media networking sites to get a message across while convincing their audience to help the cause.
From Spanish to English: #ustired2The creators of #USTired2, based in the United States, had one mission in mind when creating their website. They wanted to unite people that would help convince the American government to stop fueling money into Mexico. This money is put into the hands of corrupt officials and since the funding began there has only been an increase in crime, murder, and drugs. On their website, they have a page to voice their thoughts in a blog format, a page dedicated to telling people how they can support the cause, and a fact sheet providing background as to why they are fighting for change. More recently, the website has focused on President Nieto's visit to Washington D.C. President Nieto intended to meet with President Obama and cabinet members to talk about further economic support from the United States. In President Nieto's picture, shown on the top left, you can see the White House in the background dripping with blood and skulls, symbolizing the amount of deaths that have resulted from United States funding to President Nieto. Then on President Nieto's face, you can see how half of his face looks like that of death, because that is all he has brought to Mexico as a president. Many other images, like this one, are edited to show how the administrators of the website feel about a person or action. The website has also organized and documented a demonstration that was a response to Nieto's visit to the United States, because he is doing it in midst of a crisis in Mexico. They asked President Obama to stop sending funds to a government that on countless occasions has been noted by the Human Rights Watch, an international advocacy group for human rights, of violating its own peoples' human rights. It goes to show that President Nieto's actions are unforgivable. #UStired2 uses a lot of images to show the unjust actions that are occurring in Mexico. They also constantly repeat the number forty three, the picture on the top right being an example, to remind the audience of the forty three students and the great loss they meant to many. This website also has the ability to be mentioned on a Facebook or twitter post, two of the most common forms of social media networks. The website does this in order to spread their message faster, instead of just existing and waiting for people to visit the website. Although not on their website, #USTired2 has created multiple videos that play on a person's emotion and cause a person to really feel the pain of Mexico's people. Their digital identity is that of a great revolutionary group looking for change through all forms and asking help from all people. They represent people's anger and outrage in several different forms.
